Biography
Margaretta K. Mitchell is a nationally-known artist and professional
photographer, author, and educator based in the San Francisco Bay
Area. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Art History and Fine Art
from Smith College, as well as a Master's degree in Visual Studies
in Photography from UC Berkeley.
Margaretta photographs portraits and weddings, gardens, interiors
and other assignments, and exhibits her fine art photography internationally.
Her photography is included in the book
A History of Women Photographers (1994). On January 31, 2000
she was honored by the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra at the world
premiere of a new work by French composer Jean Pascal Beintus, commissioned
by Kent Nagano and inspired by Margaretta's photographic project
Dance for Life.
She has recently completed the book The Face of
Poetry, published by the
University of California Press.
